"Elegy for Benghazi" |

West Hartford, Connecticut, composer Richard Chiarappa was so moved by the events in Benghazi on September 11th, 2012, that he began work on a musical composition to honor the memory of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, U.S Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and CIA contractors Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty.
The mere mention of Benghazi can stir emotions and easily lead to political quagmire, however, while aware that questions concerning the events leading up to, during, and in the aftermath of the event still surround that fateful night and will for years to come, Chiarappa believes the simple fact remains that there were four Americans killed who need to be remembered and honored.
This, and only this, is the purpose behind the composition. "Elegy for Benghazi" will have its premiere on the evening of May 21st, 2016, on Armed Services Day, by the West Hartford Symphony Ochestra during their annual Pops Concert.
